A quick look at some obvious yet often forgotten methods for acquiring a project

In 2021 Peter Askew (searchbound) shared his top tip for how he sometimes likes to acquire projects. It’s a very simple system. Type one of the following phrases (with quotes) into Google and see what comes up.

"this website is now for sale"

"this website is for sale"

"placed this website up for sale"

"accepting offers on this website"

Does this method still work in 2024? I was curious to find out. Here’s the most promising project I discovered currently for sale from trying those terms:-

Not a bad site but definitely didn’t find any real hidden gems. So, let’s dig a little deeper.

🔎 Searching Product Hunt for abandoned projects

It’s been a while since I had a good dig around Product Hunt. I should do it more often to keep a finger on the pulse of what’s going down at the moment. As I was looking through I was reminded of something I’d seen quoted by Andrew Wilkinson..

There must be a ton of fairly credible projects for sale that stalled for some reason or another. I began to start searching for things in the acquisition space.tl;dr - I ended up discovering that sideinvest (No.2 product of the day) and lovedomains both had reasonable launches on PH but had since become abandoned. I’ve acquired both of these. Time will tell what will become of them or if they were a wise investment!
